The TSA is largely a joke, but not a very funny one.

The problem is that we seem to have confused getting hassled with being secure, but the two do not necessarily go together.

I know, um, someone who often flies for work and has occasionally found that his Leatherman tool was left in his carry-on instead of dumped in his checked bag… oops! Yet, it has never been detected.

Meanwhile, Nena of the Arabic last name gets hassled every time she goes to the airport, and I have to explain now and then to inspectors that I am bringing an EMPTY water bottle through because I intend to fill it with non-terrorist water from a drinking fountain once I get to the terminal and safely out of reach of those who hate our freedoms.

The one with the guy blowing smoke in the woman’s face is just gross, and the caption only adds to that sense. The Santa Claus having a smoke is just funny. It would make a good piece of clip art for a garage band’s concert poster. The one with the plane over the WTC is, I think, just a coincidence. Even if the WTC destruction really turns out to be a long-planned inside job, I don’t think they’d let an airline or whatever it is advertise it years before the fact.

The buzz among McCain supporters is that Palin “held her own,” which I guess means that she didn’t totally fall apart. Apparently, they think the Vice Presidency is something for which you can cram for just like you would a final exam in a class outside your major sophomore year in college.
